Greece’s PM Tsipras says still open to a compromise
FXStreet (Córdoba) - Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras addressed the nation once again on TV as the country gears up for a referendum on austerity measures.
Tsipras said that he is still open to a compromise in order to end any talk of Greece leaving the Eurozone. He assured Greece is seeking a sustainable deal and a solution that will keep them in the Eurozone.
He reiterated a ‘NO’ vote is not a rupture with Europe and austerity only serves to further the crisis.
Minutes later, via Twitter he said a new bailout must include debt restructuring.
“Either you give in to ultimatums or you opt for #democracy. The Greek people can't be bled dry any longer. #Greece #Greferendum #OXI” @tsipras_eu
“Our proposals met budgetary targets, but weren't accepted. They insisted that we impose measures that would be harmful to society. #Greece” @tsipras_eu
“We refused to accept measures that would harm farmers, certain income strata and the islands' economies. #Greece #Greferendum #dimopsifisma” @tsipras_eu
“Without debt restructuring, no program will be viable. #Greece #Greferendum #dimopsifisma #OXI” @tsipras_eu
“If we gave in on the ultimatum, we would've been turning our backs on the popular mandate from the Greek people. #Greece #OXI #Greferendum” @tsipras_eu
“The day following the #referendum, we'll immediately resume our efforts to reach an agreement. #Greece #dimopsifisma #Greferendum #OXI” @tsipras_eu
“The greater the #OXI / NO vote is in the #referendum, the stronger the government's position will be when the negotiation resumes. #Greece” @tsipras_eu
"When we announced the #referendum, the IMF announced that #Greece's debt required a 30% haircut and long grace period. #Greferendum #OXI" @tsipras_eu
“For 5 years now #Greece has implemented the partners' decisions, yet a solution to the Greek problem has not been found. #Greferendum #OXI” @tsipras_eu
“For 5 months now, #Greece has dealt w/unprecedented blackmail to accept recessionary measures. Our people will decide freely. #Greferendum” @tsipras_eu
